We are regularly out running on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with other week-day runs being a little more ad-hoc. Below is set out what is broadly on offer but we recommend that you join our Facebook page and/or our WhatsApp group to be kept in the loop of exactly what is going on each week.
Saturday Run
Every Saturday morning, there is a run usually starting at 8am at the Rose Hill end of the Middlewood Way in Marple. The Saturday run is often used as a training session for upcoming marathons and half-marathons, so there is more of a focus on pace and distance. Usually 10-20 miles depending on what people are training for. Routes typically proceed along the Middlewood Way (former railway line) but can also involve detours into Lyme Park or the Kinder Scout area.
Sunday Run
Every Sunday morning we meet at Mill Brow in Marple Bridge at 8.30am for a social 10 mile run. The Sunday run is a leisurely session offering a chance for the group to have a general catch-up and enjoy the spectacular scenery.
Weekly Training
Every week, many of our group attend evening training sessions on the running track in Woodbank Park. You are able to access the track either as a member of Stockport Harriers or as a non-member (there is a cost to access the track which varies depending whether or not your are a member of Stockport Harriers.
There are also a number of ad hoc runs organised throughout the year:
Summer Evening Run
During the summer months, there are 5-10 mile evening runs usually starting in Marple Bridge or Rose Hill. On some occasions these runs will start further field such as Hayfield or Lyme Park.
Head-torch Run
During the non-summer months, there are 5-10 mile (generally) Monday evening runs usually starting in Marple Bridge or Rose Hill. These runs are similar to the Summer Evening Run except they usually start/finish in the dark so a good head-torch is essential.
Friday Skive Run
As the name suggests, this 10-25 mile run is an opportunity to break from the normal Friday routine and travel further afield. The run will typically start on a Friday morning in the Hope Valley and finish in Marple (usually we catch a train to the start). However, several circular Friday Skives have also been organised, for example, to recce routes for the Grindleford Gallop, Bullock Smithy and Gritstone Grind.
Lake District Runs
On several occasions (usually over a weekend), 10-25 mile runs are organised in the Lake District National Park. Typically, these runs are used to recce challenge rounds such as Steve Parr, Bob Graham and Joss Naylor, so they are such a great opportunity to have a social, but challenging run in some truly spectacular scenery.
