The Taster Menu

THE TASTER MENU: 10.23 miles and 1500 feet of elevation

A 10 mile circular, hilly route, mainly off-road with lots of lovely views throughout.

There are 7 checkpoints along the way that must be visited to complete the Taster Menu:

1. • Royal Oak (START) - SJ 972 886 - 0 miles

Start from the Royal Oak, then go past Mellor Primary School on the left and head up the steep  hill.

1. • Mellor Church - SJ 982  889 - 0.8 miles

Go through Mellor Church yard and exit the main entrance, heading up the hill towards Shiloh Road.

1. • Little Mill Inn - SK 011 890 - 3.01 miles

Take the public footpath left (just before the Little Mill Inn) towards the centre of Rowarth and  head up the Cown Edge footpath  towards Cown Edge summit.

1. • Cown Edge Summit - SK 021  920 - 5.39 miles

Go past the small cairn at Cown Edge summit (marked on OS maps) and loop back along Coombes Rocks edge.

1. • Robin Hood's Picking Rods - SK 006 909 - 7.07 miles

Continue on the path crossing Gun Road, then take a left turn through Cloughend Farm towards Mill Brow,

1. • Hare & Hounds - SJ 981  897 - 9.14 miles

Go down the steep hill (opposite the Hard & Hounds),  cross the bridge at the bottom and head right to Townscliffe Farm, heading back past Mellor Primary School to the finish at the Royal Oak.

1. • Royal Oak (FINISH) - SJ 972 886 - 10.23 miles

Our recommended route (that has generally good conditions underfoot) can be followed using the GPX file available here.

However, you can also choose your own route between checkpoints, so long as it uses public rights of way and/or access land.
